Stenoly

/ ˈstɛn.oʊ.li /proper noun · stenography, in AI.

Coined from stenography — Greek στενός (stenos, "narrow") + γραφία (graphia, "writing"), the practice of capturing speech in real time. The AI form, since 2024.

  1. 1.proper noun

Stenoly AS — a medical AI company in Oslo, founded in 2024. Named for its lineage in stenography.

  2. 2.the product

An AI medical scribe. Captures the consultation in real time and writes the chart from inside the room — in the structure your specialty already uses.

  3. 3.the outcome

A clinical day finished by 5pm — with the writing already done.

Why Stenoly exists

For every patient a clinician sees, there is a half-hour ghost behind them — copying, structuring, re-typing what was just heard. Most of medicine, by volume, is paperwork. None of medical school prepares you for that.

We started Stenoly to undo that quiet weight. Not to replace what clinicians do — to subtract what no one trained them for. The note that takes the room with you when the consultation ends. The hour reclaimed before the kids fall asleep. The version of practice that medicine was supposed to be.
Where it began

A year of weekly sessions, with one working physician.

In 2024, an engineer in a family of doctors started Stenoly with his co-founder. His mother — a Norwegian GP — was losing her evenings to the chart, the way working physicians do everywhere.

The first version was written at her desk, over a year of weekly sessions: she described what a consultation needed; the next week he had it built. Her colleagues found it; theirs followed.

The product is still written that way today — weekly, with the people who use it.

What we believe

Three principles, kept short on purpose.

Principle
01

Patient first, always.

Every product decision starts with one question: does this make the consultation better for the patient in the room? If the answer isn't yes, we don't ship it.

Principle
02

Clinician-led design.

Stenoly is built with working clinicians — not by them. Every default, shortcut and line of copy is shaped by the doctors using it, weekly.

Principle
03

Sovereign by design.

Your data lives in your jurisdiction, encrypted at rest and in transit. Never used to train models you have not opted into. The patient owns the record, always.

How we got here

From one clinic, to four markets.

2024Founded

Stenoly begins in Oslo.

An engineer in a family of doctors and his co-founder start the company. The first version of the product is built through a year of weekly sessions with a working physician.

2025Expansion

Sweden and Denmark come online.

Stenoly adds Swedish, Danish and English — from one clinical language at the start of the year to four by year-end.

2026Four markets

Switzerland launches.

Stenoly arrives in Switzerland in two locales — Swiss-Standard German and Swiss-French. Six clinical languages today; more than five hundred clinics across four markets now write their notes with Stenoly.

The team

Three of us, building from Oslo.

A founding team that hires slowly and writes the product carefully — close to the clinicians using it, every week.

From clinicians using Stenoly

In their own words.

Portrait of Amalie Moger, Resident Physician.
Stenoly has made my workday so much easier. When my last patient leaves now, all my clinical notes are already complete. I get efficient and structured notes in real-time.

A major advantage is also the impressive interpretation of English conversations into precise local language. The tool works seamlessly for both physical consultations and e-consultations.

The result is that I save 1–2 hours daily — without affecting my salary. A game changer in a busy clinical day.
